The Diana F+ camera is now back in stock, available in two editions, the Diana F+ CMYK Edition and the Diana F+ Black Jack Edition. This iconic medium format film camera is known for its dreamy, colourful images with stylised vignetting and unpredictability. Both cameras come with coloured gel filters and can be used for pinhole photography as well as multiple and long exposures.
Professional photographers like Mark Sink used it to document the New York arts scene during the 1980s, photographing the likes of Andy Warhol (who apparently hated its ‘soft’ photos) as well as landscapes and nudes. In an interview with Lomography, he said that what made this camera stand out to him was its imperfections, how it did not do everything cameras were ‘supposed’ to do, including vignettes and edge blur.
Sink also had some advice for Diana shooters, which he highlighted makes for a great travel and wedding camera. ‘Concept first!’ he said, ‘Diana does so well with simple graphic shapes and rhythm. How about the idea of the space between the objects in itself being the subject of an image? Let yourself fail. Diana works because Diana lets you have happy accidents. Accidents are the key to success. One has to learn to let go and fail. We live too much in a failsafe world.’
Both editions of the Diana F+ camera and flash are available to buy at the Lomography Shop for $99 / £79. The Lomography Shop sells a selection of analogue cameras and film, from 35mm, 110, 120 to instant photography essentials.
